It’s ironic that I must defer to MSN’s re-publishing of select NYT articles to bypass the Gray Old Lady’s paywall in order to read and comment on its coverage of President Biden’s coercive freebies-for-all pitch to Congress (and the American people) last night.
As expected, the old guard boomer Democrat has issued one more death rattled nod to the neo-socialist entitlements of today’s younger generations and their eventual reign over America’s future.
In addition to his liberal smorgasbord seeking to pacify social and racial crusaders, Biden promised to dip into the pocketbooks of America’s wealthiest to pay for the welfare entitlements of a generation that is not trying to be Great.
President Biden laid out an ambitious agenda on Wednesday night to rewrite the American social compact by vastly expanding family leave, child care, health care, preschool and college education for millions of people to be financed with increased taxes on the wealthiest earners.
Invoking the legacy of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Mr. Biden unveiled a $1.8 trillion social spending plan to accompany previous proposals to build roads and bridges, expand other social programs and combat climate change, representing a fundamental reorientation of the role of government not seen since the days of Lyndon B. Johnson’s Great Society and Roosevelt’s New Deal.
The MSM is not wasting time elevating President Biden to unworldly heights of statesmanship. I call it the “Trump Slingshot Effect”; that cultural reverberation we experience in reaction to the nightmare period of darkness which a large segment of society experienced during the previous “tyrant’s” rule. Unleashed to incomprehensible action, they deify President Didn’t-Mention-Ya for no appropriate reason other than he is not Donald Trump. Any success Biden has in culling worship and praise from the American people is meaningless insofar as he inherited one of the lowest bars of Presidential Dignity in the history of this country.
Biden’s New Deal promises more!
Proving that he will be one of the smarmiest identity whores in the modern Presidency, Biden oozed.
But in a notable first, Mr. Biden became the first president to deliver an address to Congress with two women sitting behind him representing the next in the line of succession to his office, Vice President Kamala Harris and Speaker Nancy Pelosi. After addressing Ms. Harris as “Madam Vice President,” Mr. Biden said to applause, “No president has ever said those words, and it’s about time.”
Mr. Biden called for legislation to improve policing across the United States and to restrict access to high-powered firearms. He expressed hope that negotiations to rein in police abuses may reach bipartisan agreement and called on lawmakers to come to a deal by next month, one year after Mr. Floyd’s death, but no consensus across the aisle appears likely for meaningful gun legislation.
Biden kowtowed to BLM and today’s Fuck The Police generation.
Mr. Biden also came to the defense of transgender people who have been targeted by some Republicans. “For all transgender Americans watching at home, especially young people who are so brave, I want you to know that your president has your back,” he said.
What good are his liberal re-emergence and metamorphosis without homage to the degenerates of America?
And of course, our 21st Century global society dictates America must loosen its grip on any power it once was so presumptuous to hold.
The president, who has struggled to respond to a surge of migrants at the southwestern border since taking office, highlighted his proposed overhaul of the immigration system, discussed his goals to stem climate change and urged legislation to expand voting rights.
And now, the meat and potatoes:
The “American Families Plan,” as he called his latest, $1.8 trillion proposal, would follow the “American Rescue Plan,” a $1.9 trillion package of spending on pandemic relief and economic stimulus that he has already signed into law, and the “American Jobs Plan,” a $2.3 trillion program for infrastructure, home health care and other priorities that remains pending.
The families plan includes $1 trillion in new spending and $800 billion in tax credits. It would finance universal prekindergarten for all 3- and 4-year-olds, a federal paid family and medical leave program, efforts to make child care more affordable, free community college for all, aid for students at colleges that historically serve nonwhite communities and expanded subsidies under the Affordable Care Act.
Paid for by the wealthy.
To pay for that, the president proposed increasing the marginal income tax rate for the top 1 percent of American income earners, to 39.6 percent from 37 percent. He would increase capital gains and dividend tax rates for those earning more than $1 million a year. And he would eliminate a provision in the tax code that reduces capital gains on some inherited assets, like vacation homes, that largely benefits the wealthy.
I’m all for that, but the cynical theorist in me fends off pragmatism that dampens idealism. Rich people did not became rich by giving their money away or practicing noble altruism. Utilizing their most abundant resource, money, they will ensure through a series of convoluted loopholes and neatly tucked financial legislations that any taxes directed at them are sloughed off to the middle class. It’s the same song and dance that defines the very essence of modern Western capitalist culture. The carrot is “tax the rich” but that carrot is then re-engineered by the elites into a collective “foreign object” used to rape lower- and middle-class Americans.
The bullshit meter red alert is Biden’s insistence on perpetuating the College Industrial Complex.
I would laud some of his proposals but the fact that free college is among his pandering scares me off from embracing this man’s wannabe populism. If we continue to perpetuate the College Industrial Complex as a society, we are committing to perpetuating globalism and its concomitant legacy of middle class destruction. And college is never free.
For a President to get my absolute “devotion,” they must:
- Prioritize revitalization of trades as a viable and socially rewarding career path by gutting the bloated College Industrial Complex of governmentally-enabled revenue streams. Transitioning the college paradigm to one of “learning, not earning.”
- Diminishing and purging members of the legal profession and American Bar Association. Cap the number of lawyers in this country by limiting the number of law licenses in effect at any one time. “Adjust” the legal profession’s paradigm to one of exclusivity, honor and self-respect.
